Bercill Stamps - Forest Hill High School
Bercill Stamps, a Forest Hill High School parent, participated in the Parent Leadership Institute class of 2004. Berncill, along with parents and teachers in her school, considered the fact that few students were enrolled in Advanced Placement courses to be an indicator that students were not being academically challenged and were not developing their full potential to compete in the college application process. Berncill organized parent meetings to educate families about the Advanced Placement program and the benefits of taking academically challenging courses. She formed a committee made up of parents and teachers to work with the counselor in actively recruiting targeted students to enroll in Advanced Placement courses. As a result, the numbers increased from 35 students enrolled in four AP courses in 2003-04 to 128 students enrolled in six AP courses in 2005-06.
